Here we are! 2022 is upon us! Why is 2022 a little different from prior years? Current events mostly. The pandemic for one, mobile devices playing a huge role in today’s connected device category, and most importantly, privacy and safety while on the net.
Because of the above, we feel these following web design trends are going to make a huge splash in 2022.
1. Bold Color Palettes
While minimalistic design has been a huge success as of late, it doesn’t need to be “small” and “boring”. A bright, bold color scheme can make a website stand out without relying on flashy features. We love using the following website for amazing, fun, and “loud” colors that work well together on the internet.

2. Parallax Scrolling
By definition, parallax is a technique that “causes the background to move slower than foreground content, which creates layers and depths within your design and a level of visual hierarchy”. This technique isn’t new, nor is a feat of nature. Many WYSIWYG tools provide this in their tool box and is easily implemented even by the DIY developer. Why is it still going to be hot? It draws attention when using a well edited image. Simply, people love seeing it.
3. Little Animations (Such As Gifs or Lotties)
We all use Facebook, or something of that nature, so we’re all in the know of what a GIF is and does. Another “GIF like animation” we feel is going to be huge is the Lottie animation. Lottie is an open source animation file format that’s tiny, high quality, interactive, and can be manipulated at runtime. The top 500 apps on the App store now use Lottie to engage users and enhance conversions.
An example of a three separate Lottie file can be seen below:

5. Safety First
Every single person, business, pet, tree, and even blade of grass is overwhelmed. 2020, 2021, and now 2022 is appearing to be trying on us due to the COVID pandemic.
Because of lockdowns, distant learning, and home based working style, the entire world is on the internet. Besides pressing the Internet infrastructure to the limit, the hackers and scammers are out in full force, ready to try and fool anyone who will click their phishing link, or answer their troll farmed Facebook post. We won’t go over how to protect yourself from these types, as we already did that here (Safety Tips For Working From Home).
We can help our websites visitors by creating a fun, safe, and airy adapting feeling by how we design it. Webpages that integrate images, videos, etc. that evoke outdoor environments and design inspired by home decor can provide that “I am safe” feeling. We also want to help visitors feel that they’re in a new space – but they are just as safe as they are at home.
This is really about aesthetics and feelings – we want to be away from home, but at the same time, we want the safety of our homes.
